Castanea sativa [Sweet chestnut]

Habit:  Large tree, 20-25 m. high. Introduced in Denmark during The Middle Ages
Foliage:  Short-stemmed, 10-25 cm long, lanceolate and leathery leaves

Flowers:  Male flowers yellow-green and sit close to 25 cm long catkins; the female flowers are situated at their base. The flowers contain a lot of nectar. May produce tasty chestnuts in hot summers
Site:  Sunny and protected.Thrives on most soils 
Use:  Traditionally in parks and in recent years for wood production
